This new Memorial honours all of the servicemen and women who have given their lives in the service of Australia, and honours all those servicemen and women who have served and those who continue to serve in the Australia Defence Forces.

The Memorial also honours three members of The Gap community who enlisted to service and who paid the supreme sacrifice:  Lcpl E H Paten and Pte A E Lowe in World War 1; and Warrant Officer Chapman RAAF in World War II.
