The first round (of two) of the 2007/08 Community Grants Program, which includes the new Lord Mayor’s Sustainability Grants, was signed off in December 2007.
The Lord Mayor's Suburban Initiative Fund covers several different themes and this year was expanded to include the Lord Mayor’s Sustainability Grants to support the installation of energy and water saving devices to buildings, land and facilities owned or leased by non-profit community groups.
I was delighted to have been able to send cheques to two successful recipients of the Lord Mayor’s Sustainability Grants from The Gap Ward.
The first being for Ashgrove Memorial Pre-School and Kindergarten Association Inc. for the supply and installation of rainwater tanks to be plumbed into the existing toilet block of the preschool. This will reduce potable water use.
The second Sustainability Grant went to The Gap Pastime Club for a water efficiency project to install a water drinking found near the Club’s playing fields, and the replacement of 6 existing toilets with water efficient toilets and the replacement of taps in bathrooms, kitchen and bar with water efficient taps.
Congratulations to these groups, the Lord Mayor’s Sustainability Grants will enable Groups to support Brisbane in becoming Australia’s most sustainable city.
