Generally, the NALL (Natural Assets Local Laws) seeks to retain protected vegetation unless there are reasonable circumstances for removal. A NALL Permit is required for the trimming or removal of trees on properties subject to all categories of the NALL. Talk to the Environment Management Team (EMT) about NALL protection in general.
Approval to removal protected trees within 3 metres of residences may be granted if the tree is proven to be unsafe or unmanageable by a qualified aborist (not treelopper). The EMT can assist with these applications.
Trees and vegetation currently not protected under the NALL may be protected under provisions of the town plan (building location envelopes, waterways, wetlands, local plans, making new protection orders etc) or under existing development application conditions. Talk to the Ecologist Development Assessment West regrdin these and other issues connected with development.
