Lord Mayor Awards photograph the fight against climate change
Thousands of dollars are on offer to photographers who document Brisbane’s efforts to fight climate change - through the 2007 Lord Mayor’s Photographic Awards.

Lord Mayor Campbell Newman said this year’s theme was environment and sustainability - named Shifting Focus.

Cr Newman said Shifting Focus was in line with his vision to make Brisbane Australia’s most sustainable city and his $100 million CitySmart program.

"At some point in the future, when we look back in Brisbane’s history, we’ll realise how important this period was in the culture of our city.

“I want Brisbane’s photographers to tell the story of how we are turning the city round – developing sustainable ways of life to preserve our precious environment."

"I'd like to see the small gestures in private gardens such as composting, worm farms or vegetable gardens.

"Catch on camera what we do in public spaces such as cycling or car pooling to reduce carbon emissions and reduce our demand on fossil fuels.

"I also want to see the large-scale gestures such as recycling, desalination or tree planting projects - and whole communities getting together to make a difference.

"The environment changes all the time but photographs can fix this chapter in Brisbane's coming-of-age -and capture our efforts in making Brisbane Australia’s most sustainable city."

Judges include Lord Mayor Campbell Newman, The Courier-Mail’s Derek Moore, Network 10 Amanda Fitzgerald and Museum of Brisbane’s  Alice-Anne Boylan.
