Neighbourhood Watch - Kestrel Watch of the Gap - The Gap Ward Updates

06 February, 2008

Kestrel's First Meeting in 2008 will be held at St Mark's Anglican Church Hall, Kullaroo Stret, on Monday, 25 February starting 7.30pm.  All residents are invited.

Giddyup soon for ponies, a wait for bus riders

THE new safety fence around the sand arena at the fonner Gap Pony Club, at Yoorala St in KestreJ's area. has been built thanks to Cr Geraldine Knapp's parks trust fund. She said signage would be erected soon and the arena used when equine flu restrictions were lifted. It was not to be used as an off-leash dog area. she added.

Save Our Waterways Now has finally taken over part of the grounds, the clubhouse and a section behind that building, which they call SOWNy Clubhouse.  Regrettably, vandals daubed the clubhouse with graffiti on Australia Day.

Park and ride call

Cr Knapp also has news for the many commuters who have called for a car park at the council bus terminus adjoining Yoorala St. Brisbane Water has resumed its land and for safety reasons does not allow cars inside the bus turn-around.

Translink is responsible for all park-and-ride installations-the BCC is only a transport provider within the network. After "hard pushing", Translink has included the Waterworks Rd terminus in its "'to be built" park-and-ride facilities, Cr Knapp said.

She considered a park-and-ride facility urgent as the current practice of parking beside Waterworks Rd was unsafe. To construct a car park off road at the terminus Translink would need to negotiate for land from Brisbane Water.

.Any local residents who were not notified of the council kerbside clean-up starting on February 4, and who wish to dispose of junk, are advised to contact the ward office (3407 1900) for possible inclusion in the Ashgrove collection beginning on February 10.
