Nurture your masculine side at Chermside library

23 July, 2008

Calling all fathers and sons interested in unusual Sunday afternoon activities – come along to Brisbane City Council’s Chermside library and take part in robot building workshops, Adventure in Antartica talks, science shows and cartoon classes.

From Sunday 20 July, fathers and sons will be able to spend a special hour together at Chermside Library, having fun and bonding while enjoying a range of boys only activities.

Families and Community Services Chairman Geraldine Knapp said that libraries had evolved from traditional ‘book nooks’ to include dynamic activities such public talks from Antartic adventurer Anthony Eaton featuring artefacts from his trip.

“The boys can also explore strange worlds, battle with weird creatures and make their way through mysterious mazes with a ‘Choose Your Own Adventure’ workshop run by author Renee Dillon,” Cr Knapp said.

“Political cartoonist Sean Leahy from the Courier Mail will also be teaching cartooning and caricature skills with a fun workshop where the dads and boys can create their own comic strip.

“If you are a science nut, the UQ Physics Demo Troupe’s science show will surprise and entertain at the same time!

“You can also get your hands dirty by creating your own fast moving robots from old toothbrushes.

“It might not be the first place you would expect to see fathers and sons bonding on a Sunday afternoon, but these fun activities show that Council libraries really do have something for everyone.”
